Rancho Encantado

Just a little more than half an hour away from the capital city of Chetumal and its airport, and about the same distance to the border with the country of Belize, Rancho Encantado is situated on the shores of the pristine waters of Laguna Bacalar. It is a stunning freshwater lake that is so clear it lives up to its nicknames referring to the water color. The lagoon of Bacalar is known for its seven shades of blue water, ranging from pale shades of baby blue to aqua to deep royal blues. If you didn’t know any better you would think that this place is an idyllic Caribbean seaside town. This area, in the southernmost part of the Yucatan Peninsula, is developing as a destination for the eco-minded traveler who seeks escape from the larger, often more well known areas of the northern part of the Peninsula.
